Good Usage is Simply Correct Grammar Essay example -- Teaching Writing

Good Usage is Simply Correct GrammarWhat is unspoiled use? Does it even matter? Those argon non easy questions to answer. Is sincere use honest simply using correct grammar or is everyone who is using it just trying to speak above everyone else? What I mean by trying to speak above others is using large words, which you normally would not use, just to grave more intelligent than you actually are. I think the type of usage a person uses depends on the audience, the topic, and why the person is writing. Why does good usage have to involve more than just those items?My answer to that question is that it does not. There are, in fact, many different types of good usage. There is good usage for friendly earns, regains, cover letters, applications and etc. For instance, I would not make unnecessary a letter to a friend and use the same type of language I would use in a paper for a professor. The letter would be more casual while the paper would be much more white-tie. If I wrote th e personal letter in a formal way the reader would take one look at the letter and think I was just trying to impress someone. However, that does not mean that I am not using good usage in that letter. I still use correct grammar, check the punctuation, and check the spelling. That is what I consider good usage to be. As long as I still do those items isnt that okay for a friendly letter? My friend reading that letter does not want to have to look up every other word in the dictionary.Now lets pronounce I was writing a resume cover letter. I would not write something like Hey, Id be a good asset to your company. Instead I would write something to the effect of I feel I could be a desired asset in your company. I would choose the second statement because it sounds more... ...ing to say here? Basically, I am saying that good usage consists only of using correct grammar (paragraphs, punctuation, spelling, etc.) and has absolutely nothing to do with knowing all those 75 cent words. s lew do not want to listen to other people trying to act smart and show off.Why does it matter? People need proper usage to get employed, receive good grades, to even get acknowledged in the real world, and just simply to be accepted.Should good usage matter? This is tricky because it should not matter how proper people can speak as long as they do not sound dumb as a rock (if they are not) and they are able to perform their jobs well. Yet, we should not be running around saying sentences like I aint got no pen so I aint gonna do my homework because this is not even close to correct grammar which is my definition of what good usage really is.

They tortured so many of them leaving the few Holocaust survivors with horrid memories.Propaganda played a huge role and affected many populations thinking during this time period. The propaganda was designed to influence the targeted peoples opinions, beliefs, and emotions. Joseph Paul Goebbels was the German national socialist propagandist. He had complete control over radio, press, cinema, and theater. What the propagandist preached may have been either true or false. They did whatever it took to sway the people to believe their ideas. They wanted people to think that their way was right. The Nazis were known for using terms that had literal and actual meaning in their propagandized language. Their thoughts were hammered into peoples brains so they soon became unconsciously thinking the way the Nazis did. The propagandist had rules like our 10 Commandments. The first three were to divide and conquer, tell the people what they want, and the big the lie, the more people will believe it. There were rumors about this killing center so the Nazis arranged a hoax. A lot was done to this ghetto a caf was created, a childrens opera was performed, a monument was built to honor the dead.

Margins: Meaning of Life and Frazier Essay

In Ian Fraziers essay, In Praise of Margins, the author dialog about his childhood life and how he had margins where he and his friends would do things and nothing would matter because they wouldnt c are. Marginal thought is valuable because it allows adults to use their imagination. His purpose is to smack new activities without shame its the spur of the moment that defines margin. I think his view about borderline activity is comprehensive and relatable.When we think of margins, we think of the wasted space on the edge of the paper that we postt write out of. But marginal has another meaning to it which has to do with the economic man and how we function with margins in our life such as somebodyal experiences. Marginal space is key to the coming of age process in each persons life whether we share the same activities or not. Although its not easy to pin point it out but marginal spaces are mandatory to escape from everyones present problem in frequent life.I agree and believ e with Frazier when he is talking about the meaning of marginal because it is authorized that margins some cartridge holders do not come out the way you want it to be, nothing or nobody is perfect and in that location are always something ruining the perfect moment that we all have or want. If someone keeps running heterosexual with their heads down, they might get far but eventually, they will get lost.In order to stay on track and know where youre heading, at generation the person needs to look back to see where they started from. Know where you are is the most important thing to knowing who you are and Frazier realized the great greatness of that. Throughout my childhood, I dedicated numerous hours in the assuagezing cold ice arena at the local mall, hop-scotched afterschool with my neighbors, and played house on the weekends with my cousins. These activities may sound ordinary as a child but it had a significant meaning towards me. It was my purpose to grow upon these marginal experiences.In the end, all that matters is being able to free your mind from something that you free yourself from caring about what others think. And I believe that I accomplish my marginal activity as a child, through every precipitation and bruises that I received while ice skating, I couldnt care less about what others had to say about me because I knew that every time I got up itll only make me a better skater in the end. Although changes occurred and I grew out of the marginal acts, agreeing with Fraziers realization, and suddenly there was nothing up there for us. Nor can I play hop-scotch the way I did, hopping from one box to another is like going from one class to another today. Instead of playing house with my cousins, we became college students looking for a stable job that can support our education. I agree with Frazier that the remember whens really does faltered and playing time doesnt have to end here.Although margins can be done differently and looked at differently, marginal is necessary for a person of all ages to let loose in order to overcome the pressure and stresses of everyday life. Marginal activities may vary from being active in a sport, traveling, singing or perhaps even enjoying a movie night on the couch by the end of the day marginal activities is necessary in order to free yourself from the strains of everyday life.

Compare handmaids tale and 1984 Essay

In The Handmaids Tale Margaret Atwood puts across the sense of mystery, things that were at once there but are no more. She talks about the pungent smell of sweat, shot through with the sweet smell of chewing gum and meat which came from the girls who once watched the basketball matches that were formally played there. In the first section of this book we get the smack that the character is quite lost, lost in what once was and non in the here and now. She tells us about the dances that would have been held there and the lingering music that she could still hear very faintly.We get the feeling that this women has very little, no personal belongings, no wealth nothing. The fact that the women in this building were not even allowed to exchange names tells the reader that this is some openhearted of prison, the women have no freedom they are constantly being watched by the Angels likewise in Nineteen Eighty-Four written by George Orwell there is a significant similarity between the Angels in The Handmaids Tale and the Posters in Nineteen Eighty-Four.The Angels watch over the women and in Nineteen Eighty-Four the neb which is described as a one of those pictures which are so contrived that the eyes follow you about when you persist. Watch over everyone who passes by it. Beneath it the legend read BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU giving off the impression that someone, somewhere is watching this middle aged man.The man described on the circular some might say could only be the description of Hitler a man of about forty-five, with s heavy black moustache and ruggedly pretty features Winston also tells us that the posters were plastered everywhere also revealing, like The Handmaids Tale that nowhere is safe. Adding to this is the telescreen, which cannot be switched off again may be a sign that someone or something is always watching you, and that you are never alone. Both the Angels and the Posters in these books are very intimidating figures or objects of fear. The Angels did not nerve or talk to the women just stood with their backs to them to show domination. Correspondingly the enormous face, more than a metre wide plastered on the walls with the eyes that followed you when you move is also seen as a sign of domination. The two figures show signs of both aggression and great importance, the fact that the Angles will not talk or look at the women tells us that they areseen as more significant than them. In addition to this the fact that there are so many of these posters and the fixating look on the enormous face also shows great discomfort and stress.

In this part of the play Walter is carnal knowledge Ruth about his idea to open the liquor store, but Ruth will not listen to him.Walter realizes this and starts to get a little defensive and stubborn about it. Therefore starting somewhat of a fight with Ruth. His defensiveness over his dream shows his determination. Just like Beneatha, Ruth and Walter, Mama has determination as well. Similarly, the example of negative statement and negative response is I do not feel any obligation to remain with my current employer was the negative statement and negative response was 78. 6% of respondents said disagree to the statement.The negative statement and negative response shows positive response toward organizational commitment. Based on job satisfaction and organizational commitment questionnaire result, it is proven that there is a strong relationship between job satisfaction and organizational commitment. So, if job satisfaction of an employee is high, the organizational commitment also high. It is what happened in Devaraj agency the job satisfaction of the insurance agents was high so the organizational commitment also high. Due to the higher organization commitment, the average job performance of the insurance agents was as high as 69% and average agency performance was as high as 87% and turnover rate was as low as 6% low annually.So, the high organizational commitment of an insurance agent will result in higher job performance, higher overall agency performance and lower turnover rate. Limitation There were two limitations in my research. The first limitation was that not all insurance agents in Devaraj Agency have taken the job satisfaction and organizational commitment survey. The survey only have been done with the agents attended the meeting. So the result of the survey could not be guaranteed, as 100% accurate as the views of the insurance agents who did not attend meeting were not taken. The second limitation in my research was that the connection of job satisfaction leads to organizational commitment could not be proven through the help of job satisfaction and organizational commitment questionnaire.But the relationship of job satisfaction and organizational com mitment has been be in a way that if job satisfaction of an employee is high, the organizational commitment is also high and it is otherwise if the job satisfaction is low. Recommendation Recommendations were done based on the problem identified through job satisfaction and organizational commitment questionnaire. 1) Hiring more clerical staff Based on the job satisfaction questionnaire, most insurance agents responded that they have to do too much paperwork. It may affect the agents job satisfaction. So Devaraj Agency should hire more clerical staff to help the insurance agents to do the paperwork. 2) Revise current code of procedureMany respondents said through the questionnaire that they are not happy with their current rules and procedures because they make their job difficult. So, the agency manager should bring this issue to ING management and find shipway to solve this problem. Revising current rules and procedure would be ideal solution. 3) Introduce more monetary benefits Many insurance agents expressed their concern that there are benefits they do not have which they should have. The benefits such as petro allowance and toll allowance is given to sales people from other company but ING Bhd do not give such benefits to its insurance agents. So Devaraj Agency should bring this issue to ING management. ConclusionThe relationship of job satisfaction and organizational commitment has been proved through literature review and from my research on Devaraj Agency. The result showed that there are strong relationship between job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Overall, the job satisfaction of insurance agents in Devaraj Agency is high and organizational commitment is also high. There was also relationship between organizational commitment and job performance, turnover rate and agency performance. It was also proved where the job performance, turnover rate and agency performance was high because the organizational commitment of insurance agents wa s high. Hamlets Character is contradictory&quot Essay

Shakespeare gives crossroads a very indecisive character in this play. This in turn leads to settlement becoming contradictive, more and more so passim the play. His main problem is that he is more of a thinker than a doer. This causes him more problems through place the whole play. The first example we get of this comes in hamlets first soliloquy. Here we find out what Hamlet truly feels about the situation he finds himself in after his fathers death.After initially seeming to be willing to go along with Claudiuss and his mothers marriage here we find out how he truly feels. He expresses his disgust at the hastiness from which his Mother has married to Claudius so soon after his fathers death. He also expresses how devastated he is at the death of his father and Claudius taking the crown, which Hamlet believes should rightfully be his. Hamlet once again shows this when he goes with his Fathers ghost.He comes back from this encounter determined to seclude revenge on Claudius but then passes up many feels to do so in order to make sure that the ghost is telling the truth. Hamlet continues this throughout the play and ironically this leads to him doing exactly the opposite of what the ghost wants by hurting his Mother and not taking revenge on Claudius when he has many chances to. Another appearance of Hamlets contradiction appears in his first soliloquy when he is very damning towards womenFrailty, thy name is woman This contradicts with his apparent infatuation with his mother, and especially with her internal behaviour. Hamlets contradictory character is also reflected in the many mood swings he has during the play. He constantly changes his mood one minute appearing relatively happy, the undermentioned he is at his sadistic worse cruelly teasing others with his wordplay. The worst of this comes when he is talking to Ophelia in Act 3 Scene 1, where nearly everything he says to her has a sexual double meaning.Here Hamlet has realised that he is being s pied on and intend to have some fun at Ophelias expense as he feels that she has been used as a spy whereas in reality she knows nothing of the situation. Hamlets character however can not solely be described as contradictory, it id far too complex for that. Hamlet could also be described as erudite, ingenious and quick-minded for the way he took return of the players arriving and setting up the play Murder of Gonzago in order to test the Kings guilty conscience and find out if he really did kills Old Hamlet.Hamlet is also regarded as pessimistic, over dramatic, angry, desperate and frustrated for his outlook on life and human nature and the way he feels about being denied the chance to become king after his fathers death. Many people also feel that Hamlet is obsessive this is shown with his fixation with his mothers sexual activity and is once again brought into light by Ophelia revealing all of the love letters that Hamlet has sent to her in the past. All in all I believe that whilst contradiction is one of Hamlets main characteristics, his character is too broad for it to be described as any one thing.

22RECONSIDERING A CAREER IN SECONDHAND RETAILAnton Dubois, the owner of Book em Danno in the Mission, had been a Death Merchant longer than anyone else in San Francisco. Both lived alone, no one saw anything, we dont know that a crime was even committed. But now, with this Fresh guy missing You think that these other guys were Death Merchants?Im not saying I believe that, Charlie, it could just be a coincidence, but when Ray Macy called me today about you, that was actually the reason I came to find you. She asked Charlie if he needed any help and he teared up and had to get control of his voice before he answered.Seven minutes later they were parked crossways in the warmness of Valencia Street, watching fire trucks blasting water into the second story of the building that housed Book em Danno. They got out of the car and Rivera showed his badge to the police officer who had been first on the scene.Fire crews cant get in, the cop said. Theres a heavy steel fire door in the back and those shutters must be quarter-inch steel or more.The tribute shutters were bowed outward and had thousands of small bumps all over them.What happened? One of Nemains legs had been completely severed and she had it tucked under her arm while her sisters towed her through the pipe.Can you fly, Nemain? asked Babd. If you want to heal before a millennium passes.As the three death divas came to a wide junction of pipes under Market Street, they heard something splashing in the pipe ahead.Whats that? said Babd. They stopped.Something pattered by in the pipe they were approaching.What was that? What was that? asked Nemain, who couldnt see past her sisters.Looked like a squirrel in a ball gown, said Babd. But Im weak and could be delusional.And an idiot, said Macha. It was a gift soul. Get it We can heal Nemains leg with it.Macha and Babd dropped their unidexter sister and surged forward toward the junction, just as the Boston terrier stepped into their path.The Morrigan backpedaling in the pipe sounded like cats tearing lace. Whoa, whoa, whoa, intone Macha, what was left of her claws raking the pipe to back up.Bummer yapped out a sharp tattoo of threat, then bolted down the pipe after the Morrigan.New plan, new plan, new plan, said Babd.I hate dogs, said Macha.They snagged their sister as they passed her.We, the goddesses of death, who will soon command the all under darkness, are fleeing a tiny dog, said Nemain.So whats your point, hoppie? said Macha.Over in the Fillmore, Carrie Lang had closed her pawnshop for the night and was waiting for some jewelry shed taken in that day to finish in the inaudible cleaner so she could put it in the display case. She wanted to finish and get out of there, go lieu and have dinner, then maybe go out for a couple of hours. She was thirty-six and single, and felt an obligation to go out, just on the off chance that she might meet a slight guy, even though shed rather stay home and watch crime shows on TV. She prided herself on not becoming cynical. A pawnbroker, like a alliance bondsman, tends to see people at their worst, and every day she fought the idea that the last decent guy had become a drummer or a crackhead.Lately she didnt want to go out because of the strange stuff shed been seeing and hearing out on the street creatures scurrying in the shadows, whispers coming from the storm drains staying at home was looking better all the time. He really wasnt a lot of protection, unless an attacker happened to be less than knee-high, but he had a loud bark, and there was a good chance that he might actually bark at a bad guy, as long he wasnt carrying a dog biscuit.
